Baby of Neelu Sharma

My birth weight was 658 grams, but I am no less of a warrior. I have my fighting spirit high; come watch me fly.

They say inspiration and the will to survive can come from anywhere. This little one continues to inspire everybody with the strength she displayed throughout the treatment.

Neelu Sharma and Abhishek are from Dewas, a city in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. Abhishek works as a security guard and earns Rs. 12,000 per month. Neelu is a homemaker. Neelu had hypothyroidism and pre-eclampsia, a condition where there is high BP and sometimes fluid retention. Their baby girl was born at 29 weeks at Queen’s Hospital in Dewas. The baby had an extreme low birth weight of 658 grams and was frail. The little one was transferred to Motherhood Hospital in Indore as she needed a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). She had severe respiratory distress, problems with her breathing,  and a low birth weight. She was put on CPAP support, IV fluids, and antibiotics, and doctors were monitoring her blood sugar levels. However, her distress was worsening and just not getting any better. Doctors had to upgrade the treatment to ensure this fighter as light as a fruit survived.

Abhishek, with his meager salary of Rs 12,000, was concerned about the cost of treatment as doctors had recommended a NICU stay of at least 1.5–2 months for the little one to survive.

Neelu and Abhishek found hope in the Neonates Foundation of India when the hospital referred them to the foundation. Thanks to the contributions made to the foundation, Abhishek and Neelu’s little one lives to see the day.

They say inspiration and the will to survive can come from anywhere. This little one continues to inspire everybody with the strength she displayed throughout the treatment. Her condition improved, and she was able to breathe normally.

Today she is 3 months old. Her parents are aiming for her to be a chubby bubby and fondly call her Ladoo.
