Baby of Roopavathi and Umesh, MH Mysuru

Roopavathi and Umesh tried for children in the past 13 years through many ways, but unsuccessful. They finally succeeded through IVF. On 7th July 2024, their joy was inexplicable when Roopavathi delivered two sons late preterm (34 Weeks). While one of them was quite healthy, the other one who weighed about 960 gms , suffered from breath asphyxia and was immediately shifted to NICU at the local hospital where she delivered.

But the baby (twin 2) developed further complications and was immediately rushed to Motherhood, Mysuru NICU in view of respiratory distress and prematurity in incubator on LFNC. The baby required to be in the hospital for couple of more days to be able to go home safely and healthily. But days turned into weeks. This also meant that the couple had to arrange a lot of funds for the hospital costs. They had already spent a lot for IVF and Roopavathi’s delivery at a local hospital.

Umesh being a tractor mechanic, while Roopavathi is a homemaker was finding it very difficult to find ways to arrange for his funds. He has already taken help from many people around him earlier. Infact, when he spoke to Neonates’ Foundation of India (NFI) team, he mentioned that “I am unable to enjoy this happiness of fatherhood which I have found after 13 years of my marriage, because of so much financial pressure. I have put my own house on lease to arrange a few lakhs and living with my sister, as I can’t afford a rented house now. That would again mean additional finances”. He requested our team to support in any ways possible.

When Motherhood, Mysuru approached Neonates Foundation of India (NFI) with this case, this was presented before the DRC team with all the SOP documents in place and the DRC team gave a go ahead to support the baby of Roopavathi and Umesh.

The story of Roopavathi and Umesh’s baby’s survival after such a challenging start, highlights the resilience of premature babies and the power of hope and medical care. Their story reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always a possibility for a miracle, and every small victory is a step toward a brighter future.
