Anand and Chandana had lost their first child unfortunately at the seventh month of pregnancy.

Healing from the loss of their first baby, Chandana was ecstatic and worried when she conceived. She was praying that this time her yearning for motherhood would be fulfilled.

The soon-to-be parents were eager to welcome their child into their little world when Chandana developed labour pain as she entered the 9th month. Chandana had a vaginal delivery(normal birth) and a baby girl was born on in Gouri Hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

She had a birth weight of 2.6 kg, the size of a small watermelon, but what worried the doctors was the baby’s grunting and signs of respiratory distress. Immediately she was sent to Happy Shine Hospital in Hindupur for treatment in the NICU.

The Doctors at Happy Shine diagnosed the baby with Transient Tachypnea of the New-born (TTN), a condition where the fluid of the lungs hadn’t gone away after birth. Normally babies have fluid in their lungs before birth and normally goes away when a baby is born. In the case of Chandana’s baby, the fluid had been retained and the baby’s oxygen levels were low.

For Anand, a sole breadwinner, his income came from a 1.5 acre farmland that was provided by the government. He would cultivate groundnuts, which is a seasonal crop, so he had to manage his household with the little income they earned from the produce.

For a poor farmer like him to arrange for the newborn’s treatment was extremely challenging. Through Happy Shine, he sought the help of the Neonates Foundation of India(NFI), which provided him with financial aid for the treatment. Anand and Chandana couldn’t fathom losing this little girl baby, their only hope at parenthood. See here Video

Today the Baby is 4 months old and has happily wrapped her parents around her little finger. She goes to the field with Anand and loves to watch the birds.
